Child and Adolescent Therapy

Dr. Oo helps children, teens, and their families deal with disruptive behaviors, depression, anxiety, and trauma. Sometimes when children and adolescents display disruptive behaviors or when their grades begin to drop, they are experiencing unique challenges that may be difficult to communicate or deal with. Learning how to communicate these challenges and develop skills to cope with them can prove to be highly valuable in helping teens get through some of the most difficult times in their lives.

Dr. Oo is a supervisor for the evidence-based treatment of trauma for children and adolescents, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. This modality of treatment uses the principles of systematic desensitization and reciprocal inhibition to help children and teens overcome posttraumatic stress symptoms.

Sometimes parenting can be difficult and parents can experience feelings of hopelessness and despair when faced with disruptive behaviors, arguments, fighting, family conflict, and turmoil. For parents who are in search of assistance and coaching, Dr. Oo is an internationally certified practioner of the evidence-based parenting program, "Positive Parenting Program," also known as "Triple P." This parenting program focuses on the relationship enhancement aspect of parenting. Triple P has also been instrumental in the reunification of parents and victims of child maltreatment by teaching parents the skills needed to effectively deal with disruptive behaviors so that discipline does not escalate to abuse. In a Triple P study conducted in 2009, it was discovered that one of the main causes of child maltreatment was due to the mishandling of child disruptive behaviors and associated patterns of inadequate parenting. The developers of Triple P believe that "prevention of child maltreatment necessitates a public health approach" and disseminated Triple P to countries all over the globe. Today, Triple P is one of the most widely recognized evidenced-based parenting programs.
